Liberating the Peacemaker Within

I accepted a teaching assignment in Chicago that profoundly changed my life. I was charged with developing a transformative course for street people at Interfaith House. Summing up, I received as much or more from these outcasts than I was able to give and learned as much from them as I was able to teach. The course we co-created is presented here in modified form. At this point in time with this course as the focus of my life, I can truly say to future readers (to borrow a line from poet Leonard Cohen): “I greet you from the other side of sorrow and despair.” Real peace, both within and without, requires a transformation of consciousness beyond sorrow and despair and far beyond a plodding acceptance of things as they are. That’s what this course is all about.
